New Director General of GCAA by October-Min. Ferguson

A NEW Director General for the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is to be named in October following the “reconfiguration and reintroduction” of the GCAA’s board, a press release from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure stated on Wednesday. In May, former Director General Zulficar Mohamed retired from the post after serving the Authority for more than 34-years. Acting in the post is Chaitrani Heeralall, the GCAA’s Air Navigation Services Director. Heeralall has been described as the most senior person to hold the post of Director General.
“The appointment of members to the agencies’ Boards, under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, should be publicised in early October. Nominees were already submitted by the respective agencies,” Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure said recently.
She said, following the appointment of a new board, the identification of a Director General will be priority. “And one of the pressing issues to be addressed by the appointed Director General will be the appointment of Air Traffic Controllers, who made submissions about lack of appointments over the past eight years,” Ferguson said. Four internal applicants, the ministry said were interviewed for the post; however the appointment was stalled due to the dissolution of the Board.
