ARMED bandits have struck once again at Popeye’s Fast Food Restaurant on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, carting off cash after terrorising staff and customers on Wednesday night.According to a police release, around 20:35hrs on Wednesday, two men armed with firearms held up two female cashiers at the Popeye’s Restaurant on Vlissengen Road and took away a total of $212,000.
During their escape, the perpetrators damaged a glass door to the building and discharged shots.
Ian Jupiter, 27, of Campbellville Housing Scheme, who was in the vicinity was struck to his right foot and was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The men escaped on motorcycles driven by two accomplices. Investigations are in progress, the release added.
The eating house had been robbed several times before and cash taken.
On January 25, 2015, four men entered Popeye’s on Vlissengen Road and robbed the restaurant after which one of them was shot and injured by an off-duty cop, who was making a purchase at about 19:30hrs. Customers were making various purchases when the gunmen arrived and held up the cashiers.
Three of the robbers escaped, but one was not so lucky since he was shot in the buttocks and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he underwent a surgical operation. However, he managed to escape while under police guard at the institution.
During the incident, several gunshots were discharged, damaging the glass section of the building.
