RAYON Smith, 28, alias ‘Carl Ravin Smith,’ was yesterday sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by city Magistrate Ann McLennan after pleading guilty to stealing 13 ounces of raw gold from his boss.Smith, on August 23, at Mazaruni River, stole 13 ounces of 17 pennyweight gold valued at $2.8M property of Neil Archibald Gonzales.
The unrepresented Smith did not want to waste the court’s time, and admitted that he committed the offence against his boss, who is a dredge owner.
The court heard that Smith stole the gold and boarded a plane to Georgetown and when Gonzales noticed his worker and the gold missing, the matter was reported. Smith was subsequently arrested by the police, and the gold was found on him.
