tA 45-year-old pork-knocker of Lot J 6 Jackson Street, Tucville, was yesterday jailed for three years by Magistrate Ann McLennan on a drug trafficking charge. Orin Semple, without hesitation, pleaded guilty to the charge that said on Monday, July 27 at Jackson Street, Tucville, Georgetown, he had in his possession 390 grammes of cannabis sativa.
Police Sergeant Neville Jeffers, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question ranks acting on information went to Semple’s home. A search was conducted in his room and in his wardrobe the illegal substance was unearthed.
According to the police prosecutor, Semple was not at his home at the time of the discovery but his nephew who was there was arrested. Semple later turned himself in to the police at the narcotics branch, where he accepted ownership of the prohibited drug.
The unrepresented man begged the court for leniency, after stating that what he did was wrong.
He was also fined $585,000 together with the custodial sentence.
