Rice harvesters stumble on decaying body

WORKERS heading to work in a rice field at the No. 61 Village Middle Walk backdam area stumbled on the partly decomposed remains of a man who is known to them.According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle yesterday, the man was found face down in a canal by the passersby and they immediately raised an alarm and informed the police.
Once the police were informed and arrived on the scene, the man’s body was retrieved from the canal and it was found that aquatic creatures apparently had already began eating away at his face.
The man at the time of the discovery was clad in a short pants, jersey and vest, according to sources who showed up at the location.
The man’s brother was also present on the scene and confirmed to law-enforcement officers that the remains were indeed that of his brother. It was not clear if the man had gone missing prior to the discovery of his body and if a missing person report was made at any police station.
The identity of the man was not reported to this newspaper, as relatives sought privacy at this time of grief. The police brought the body out of the area via boat and an investigation to determine how the man met his demise is under way.
