Mocha shop owner remanded over marijuana trafficking

A MOCHA shop owner, charged with having a quantity of marijuana in his possession, was on Wednesday refused bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.Junior Flu, 34, of 172 Second Street, Mocha, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge that alleged on April 21 at Mocha, he had 63 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

The defendant’s lawyer, Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat told the court that police were chasing a man and firing bullets when the man ran through his client’s yard and disappeared.
The lawyer further said that his client was arrested by the police after they barged into his yard and aroused him from his sleep and put the allegation to him.
Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru, however, objected and told the court that the facts are as charged. Flu was remanded to prison, and the matter transferred to Magistrate Fabayo Azore for May 6.
