A MASON of 143 Crown Street, Queenstown, accused of stealing a jacket yesterday appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry charged with simple larceny.Bevon French denied the charge which read that on March 7 at Brickdam, Georgetown, he stole a jacket valued $4,500, property of D’john Shepard. French claimed that he had bought the jacket from a vagrant for $100.00.
Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru did not object to bail.
French was initially made to post $5,000 bail by the magistrate, but she subsequently placed him on self-bail, since he offered to work and reimburse the virtual complainant for the jacket.
The matter is transferred to Magistrate Dylon Bess for March 17.
Shoplifter bailed for theft of hygiene products
A WOMAN accused of shoplifting feminine hygiene products from a city store was yesterday made to post $5,000 bail by Magistrate Annett Singh on a simple larceny charge.
Suntia Ramdass of Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice, denied that on March 8 at Longden & America Streets stole a pack of Dream panty liners valued $120.00, property of Fazia Collection.
Police Prosecutor Adonni Innis objected to bail on the ground that Ramdass has no fixed placed of abode.
The magistrate however overruled the prosecution’s objection and Ramdass will make her second court appearance on March 18.
