GPHC responds to Kaieteur News on death of 3-yr-old

THE Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Wednesday responded to the Kaieteur News article titled, ‘Relatives blame GPHC for death of girl, 3… despite PM revealing brain abscess as cause’.The Hospital, in a release, stated that the patient who was admitted to the hospital on February 5 was discharged on February 12 after her condition had improved.
However, on February 23, the patient was returned to the Hospital and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. She succumbed three days later (February 26).
A post-mortem was done, and the cause of death was found to be Septic Shock, Bronchopneumonia and a Brain Abscess.
According to the Hospital, during the patient’s visits to the hospital, there were no signs of brain abscess, and the necessary medications were administered to the patient to treat her other two conditions.
The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation extends sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
