For those who are too young to know

AS I continue going through history by reading articles dated in the 1980s, I stumbled upon a article stating the then co-leader of The Working People’s Alliance (WPA) Mr. Eusi Kwayana went on a fast to protest against the then fuel crisis and blackout.During the fast that took place in the month of November 1987, dozens of persons had begun to gather with Mr. Kwayana to protest. Many members of the crowds were asked to leave the scene but some refused and so arguments ensued between the protestors and the police officers. In articles/letters, Eusi Kwayana stated that the then PNC Government was causing corruption. Eusi fought for the unable, spoke for the unheard and best of all, fast for his starving country due to being unable to buy basic food necessities for the cost of living was sky rocketing and when not high, items were simply unavailable.

It is alleged that the PNC Regime was involved in the murder of the late Walter Rodney of the WPA (Working People’s Alliance), along with Father Darke of the House of Israel, Ohene Koama, Edward Dublin, and the late Education Minister Vincent Teekah due to their opposition over the manner in which Forbes Burnham governed.
Many say they were killed basically for speaking out against Mr. Burnham and those who wanted to speak out didn’t for they had to fear for their lives.
I penned this piece so that the young ones would have a little insight into part of our history.
