THE leadership of the minor opposition party, Alliance for Change (AFC), has acknowledged that there may be fallout as a result of the decision by the party to enter into a coalition with the larger opposition party, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
Addressing the issue of the resignation of its former General Secretary and a Founding Member, Sixtus Edwards, Executive Member Kathy Hughes yesterday at the party’s weekly press conference at the Georgetown Club said,“As we deal with the issue of a possible alliance, we know that we may not all be on the same footing, we may not all agree on the same approach.”
She also acknowledged that losing persons from political parties “is part of life,” as persons may die or choose to join another party. She acknowledged that the party was sorry to see Edwards leave, but his departure was not as a result of a ‘falling out with the executive’.
Sixtus Edwards, a founding member of the AFC, was its first General Secretary and lost his position to the present holder, David Patterson, shortly before the 2011 General Elections. He was also not elected to the party’s leadership.
