A NINETEEN-year-old mechanic who stole over $200,000 in cash along with cellphones on Thursday was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates Court before Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with larceny.
It was alleged that on June 13, 2013,Rayan Hillman of Lot 70 Seventh Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, at North Sophia robbed Derek Halley of a BlackBerry cell phone valued $53,000, a Nokia cell phone valued $25,000 and $200,000 in cash, totalling $277,000. Hillman however denied committing the offence.
The court was also told that either before, during or after the offence, the defendant used personal violence on Halley.
Police Prosecutor Denero Jones objected to bail citing the gravity of the offence, the penalty that the charge attracts, the fact that personal violence was used and the fact that the offence had occurred since 2013, therefore making the defendant a possible flight risk.
The defendant was remanded to prison until February 29.
The Duo who appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry on Thursday was remanded for stealing greenheart lumber from their employer and selling it another lumber yard.
Danquan Sukhu and RamrajPersaud denied that charged which said which said between December 5-7, at Omai, Essequibo River, they stole 450,000 BM Greenheart lumbers which totaled a sum of $900,000 which belonged to Bharrat Nandlall.
No facts were read bout however the defendant noted that he have already compensated Nandlall of $100,000 each and will pay the remainder within two weeks. However the magistrate granted bail to the sum of $60,000 with the each and the matter is seated again for February6.
