LONG- standing and dedicated member of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) on the Essequibo Coast, Mr. Ramkarran Das, has passed away.According to reports, the 61-year- old union representative died on Tuesday morning in the Georgetown Public Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Mr. Das who was very active in representing workers’ interests in the region, was very successful in getting workers to become members of GAWU. The union representative had also represented GAWU at May Day rallies at Anna Regina and delivered the feature address to workers on many occasions.
Workers of the union in the region said Mr. Ramkarran Das will be greatly missed. They said he was committed and represented workers faithfully in matters that affected them at their work places. (Rajendra Prabhulall in Essequibo)
