THE Department of Education of the Region Two Administration will kick off Mash celebrations with the colorful children’s competition on Monday 19th January at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground. According to a release the competition will begin with dramatic poetry and calypso competitions on Monday and will continue on Wednesday at the same venue with dance and masquerade. The release said the competition which will be held over three days will conclude on Friday with costume and physical display.
Reports said children from nursery, primary and secondary schools across the Region are expected to participate in the various competition under the theme “one people, one culture, one celebration” Winners of the competitions will represent the Region at the National competition in Georgetown
Meanwhile the Regional Administration has started preparation for it Mash celebrations. Reports said the Administration is looking to make the celebrations much more bigger; brighter and colourful this year. Region Two Chairman Mr. Parmanand Persaud said he want all Essequibians to participate in Mash activities and to celebrate together under the theme one people, one culture one celebration. Mr. Persaud said the Region will be hosting the finals of the National Chutney and the Masquerade competitions.
The Chairman said the finals of the National Chutney competition will take place on 31st January on the Anna Regina community center ground. He said planning is moving a pace for the grand competition which will feature several overseas artiste from Trinidad and Tobago. Reports said the Administration has already held a planning meeting with stakeholders and decided that prices at the gate will be adults – $500. and children – $300.
Several other activities for Mash celebrations in the Region will include a float parade and road show with revelling and decorated buildings competition. The Administration is also planning to hold a flag raising ceremony on the morning of Republic day. (Rajendra Prabhulall in Essequibo)
