A 31-year-old man was on Tuesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry on a murder charge.Tirel James was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on December 31, 2014 at Aracru, North West District, he murdered Augustine Samuels also known as “Jack.”
The accused was unrepresented and bail was refused. The matter was adjourned until February 16 and transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court. According to the police report, the deceased, Augustine Samuels, 52, was fatally stabbed at a shop on the Aracru Village around 19:30 hrs on the said day, as a result of an altercation with James who became involved over an issue with the owner of the shop. The shop-owner had managed to escape, but the defendant attacked Samuels and stabbed him about his body. Samuels was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mabaruma Hospital.
