NOTABLE DATES

ANTHONY `The Pearl’ Andrews pursued Anoury Moguea for eight rounds before finally earning a ninth-round Technical Knock Out (TKO) in a scheduled 10-rounder at the-then National Sports Hall on November 7, 1993.

Andrews was high on confidence after earning a points decision over Glenwood Brown in his previous fight. It was a busy year for `The Pearl’ who engaged in four fights, winning all.
On November 7, 1980 junior welterweight Guyanese Derek `Teacher’ McKenzie’s attempt at winning a Commonwealth title ended in the second round of a scheduled 15-rounder when he was schooled by Nigerian Obisia Nwankpa. The fight ended in a TKO victory for Nwankpa.
On November 7, 1993 light heavyweight Andre `Stone’ Purlette needed only two rounds to dispatch Ivor `Baba’ Simmons.
Purlette had knocked out three of his previous four opponents.
