A MAN of Lot 58 Werk- en -Rust, Georgetown, yesterday was remanded to prison by Georgetown Magistrate, Ann McLennan for a series of robbery and assault charges.
Jason Adams, age 24, was not required to plead to three of the four offences which he was alleged to have committed in the vicinity of Bourda within the space of two months.
Particulars of the offence stated that on Wednesday, October 29 at Bourda, Adams robbed a Chinese national Chow one shoulder bag valued $3,000,which contained two Chinese and one Guyanese passports, three cell phones valued at $100,000 and $50,000 cash, a total value of $153,000.
The second charge stated that on Sunday, October 2 at Robb & Cummings Streets, Adams unlawfully assaulted Chinese national Lee Jang with intent to rob, and he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The third charge read that on the same day at North Road, Bourda, being armed with a dangerous weapon, a scissors, stole one blackberry cellular phone worth $30,000 and 18,000 cash, property of Iftekar Aziz.
It is also alleged that on Saturday, October 1 the defendant in Bourda Market broke and entered the stall of Jermaine Fernandes and stole four bird cages worth $26,000 and 100,000 in cash, bringing the total cost to $126,000.
The defendant was represented by Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-A-Fat, who told the court that his client suffers from a nervous problem and an examination should be done; he also stated that his client helps his mother out at her stall at the market.
The attorney stated that Adams was assaulted by the police and that his client still has the lacerations on his hands and back to show.
The police prosecutor, Dinero Jones objected to bail on the grounds of the offence’s nature, gravity and prevalence.
The magistrate was informed that the defendant, while in court, threatened to kill Mr. Fernandes.
However the accused was remanded to prison until the matter is called again on November 20.
