Atwell challenges for Oriental title

CLIVE Atwell could be considered a lucky boxer, as it is not usual for fighters to get a shot at two titles in a row.

Months after losing a challenge for the World Boxing Association featherweight title, Atwell has travelled to Australia to try his luck at the World Boxing Organisation Oriental super featherweight crown.
Atwell is booked to match gloves with Kye MacKenzie next week Wednesday for the vacant title. The contest would be held at the Hisense Arena, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and is scheduled for 12 rounds.
The move takes the Guyanese one step above his 126 pounds comfort zone.
The 25-year-old Atwell, who resides in Dominica, has not entered the ring since losing a world title challenge to WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez last May. He announced his retirement from boxing soon after following disagreement with his management team
However, he rescinded soon after, paving the way for next week’s bout with the undefeated Australian who is three years his junior.
MacKenzie has won 10 of 12 fights by way of knockout. The upcoming fight would be Atwell’s second outside of his homeland and will take place one day after his 26th birthday.
