NOTABLE DATES

ON October 29, 1976 lightweight legend Lennox Blackmoore stopped his Jamaican opponent Errol West in the 9th round of a 10-round contest held in Guyana. 

It was the 12th fight of Blackmoore’s career and West failed to come out at the start of the ninth round. Blackmoore had two more fights before successfully challenging home boy Jonathan Dele of Nigeria for the Commonwealth title.
The slick counter-puncher won via a 15-round decision becoming the first Guyanese to win a Commonwealth title.
On this same date in 2008, junior welterweight `Vicious’ Vivian Harris needed just six rounds to take care of Nicaraguan Octavio Marvaez in a contest scheduled for 10 rounds. Harris, a former world champion was coming off a one-year layoff, having been knocked out by WBC champion Junior Witter in his previous fight.
On October 29, 2010 featherweight world title hopeful Clive Atwell won a unanimous four-round decision over Cecil Smith at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. Atwell went on to challenge Mexican Jhonny Gonzalez for the World Boxing Council.
