CHIEF Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Monday remanded to prison Yogesh Manilall (no address given) for wounding his mother.
Manlall pleaded not guilty to a charge detailing that, on September 18 at Robb Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded his mother, Surujdai Manilall.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the incident involving the virtual complainant (VC) and her son stemmed from a misunderstanding over money.
The court heard that on the day in question, the VC was at a business place when the defendant met her and asked for money. When she refused to give him the money he had requested, he picked up a bottle and dealt her lashes about her body, resulting in her receiving injuries. The matter was, however, reported to the police.
The prosecutor opposed bail on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the offence, and the defendant was remanded to prison to October 21, when he would make his appearance before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond.
