DIGICEL Guyana last Thursday visited St. Cuthbert’s Mission,and gifted pupils and students of the Nursery,Primary and Secondary Schools backpacks, water bottles, teaching aids and lunch bags as part of their community project.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Digicel Guyana Sponsorship and Events Manager, Gavin Hope, said that as a corporate company they have the community in mind and more so, the development of children; as such, they decided to visit the village and interact with students, teachers and others.
He added that their visit yesterday also coincides with the celebration of Amerindian Heritage Month and is optimistic that their collaboration will be fruitful in the future.
Students of Grades seven and eight were presented backpacks with water bottles and in response the head teacher, Hoace Gray, said she is very pleased with the donation and looks forward for many more such initiatives.
Meanwhile, a short distance away, the pupils of St. Cuthbert’s Mission Primary School was equally glad to be the recipients of familiar tokens yesterday.
The head teacher David Fraser said that the gift is very timely and welcomed the gesture and was grateful to Digicel for their presence in that community.
At the Nursery School, a similar exercise was conducted in which teaching aids were equally distributed to four and five year olds.
On behalf of the school and students, the Acting Head Teacher Zippora Williams thanked Digicel Guyana for the donation.
A team comprising Events and Sponsorship Manager, Gavin Hope and Communications Manager, Vidya Bijlall Sanichara last week visited the Amerindian Heritage Village, Karrau, in Region 7, where students of the Primary and Nursery schools received gifts as well.
In the Digicel Guyana Community Project,several other far-flung communities will be visited as well.
St. Cuthbert’s Mission is an Amerindian village on the Mahaica River in Demerara/Mahaica, Region 4.
