THE charred remains of Jason Munroe 27, of 308 Parfaite Harmonie was removed from his gutted house, while Princess Bobb, 3 years, her mother Zelena Calender, 20, and Shantel Calendar, all of Lot 201 Dairy Parfaite Harmonie were up to press time hospitalised after their home was set alight by Clifton Joseph, 38, of Broad Street, Charlestown, early yesterday morning.

The Guyana Chronicle was told by relatives of the three women that the two sisters and the baby were at home, along with Munroe, who shares a relationship with the 20-year- old, when the suspect, who shares a relationship with the 15- year- old, used a window to gain access to the home while they were asleep. The mother of the two older girls was not at home at the time.

According to information, the 15-year-old had recently broke off a relationship with the 38-year-old man who was abusive to her and her older sister who asked Munroe to spend the nights at the home as a security measure.
The suspect who was arrested at the Vreed-En-Hoop Stelling reportedly told investigators that when he entered the home he encountered Munroe and a scuffle ensued, resulting in him striking Munroe several times to the head with a piece of wood. He then struck the older of the girls, as well as the 15-year-old.
The police were also told by the man that he used a kerosene stove to pour kerosene about the home and then he set it alight, informing the girls that they needed to

get out of the building, even as he fled, leaving Munroe unconscious on the floor.
An alarm was raised and the fire service and police were contacted even as the girls shouted that “Jason” was still in the home but unfortunately the smoke and fire prevented persons from getting into the building.
Up to late yesterday the police were seeking to secure statements from the injured girls and to see if their statements were in keeping with the caution statement which was given by the suspect when he was arrested.
