Crane man refused bail over unlawful possession of firearm

A CRANE resident yesterday was refused bail on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Junior Williams of Second Street, Crane Village, West Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan and denied the charge.

The case was put off until Thursday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation against the 23-year-old labourer said that on Thursday, July 30 at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had in his possession a semi- automatic pistol, when he was not a licensed firearm holder.
The prosecution’s facts were not read in court but Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones said that Williams is being investigated for a murder charge.
The unrepresented man contradicted the statement made by the prosecutor and told the court that he is not facing any other charge.
