Police grilling accomplice in crime
THE Police still have in their custody a businesswoman from D’urban Street who facilitated the concealing of a motorcycle used in the commissioning of an armed robbery on Monday.Yesterday A Division Commander, Clifton Hicken confirmed that the woman was still in custody and told this publication that the police are doing everything legally to have the woman cooperate with them.
He said that the police have been able to gather some more information but would not disclose this as it could compromise the outcome.
On Monday the woman locked a motorcycle in her shop after two men rode straight off the road and into the shop after robbing a woman in downtown Georgetown where she visited a business place moments after exiting a city bank.
After parking the motorcycle in the shop, the two men entered a waiting car which sped off with them. Prior to entering the car, the bandit had dumped the victim’s bag into a garbage bin along with her umbrella.
Yesterday the police promptly arrested the woman after she claimed to have knowledge of the men who parked the bike in her shop. She however claimed that the man who was driving the car is related to her.
The police are yet to put their hands on this man and have him brought in for questioning. The entire ordeal of how the man entered the store and robbed the woman of the bag containing the cash while brandishing a gun in her face was caught on camera which was covered extensively by this publication.
On Monday, Andy Mohamed, the victim’s companion told this publication that he noticed the men when they pulled up at the pharmacy and one entered the store. He exited his vehicle and went into the store since he had the suspicion that the men were up to no good. However when he entered the store the bandit had already robbed the woman and was leaving.
Mohamed said that he quickly jumped into his car and trailed the men on the motorcycle to a location on D’urban Street Lodge. There the men rode the motorcycle into a shop, ripped off the number plate, installed an auto dealer number plate, joined a waiting motorcar and made good their escape.
After the men left the police, who was already contacted by the victim’s reputed wife, remained at the D’urban Street location until the police arrived. The name of the business establishment is the Rising Sun Grocery and Beer Garden which also operates the Step In Style Boutique.
The vehicle the men entered and made good their escape after leaving the shop was bore registration number PRR 6697.
