GUYANA Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) officially handed over operations licence to Roraima Airways for New York-based airline Dynamic Airways to begin operations in Guyana. The inaugural flight for the airline is slated for 2:30 pm today.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony in the boardroom of GCAA, Duke Street, Georgetown, Chief Executive Officer of Roraima Airways, Captain Gerald Gouveia thanked the Authority for their speedy processing of the documents to make this venture a reality.
Gouveia said: “Roraima is pleased to be associated with Dynamic Airways and also will be providing all supporting services for the airline here in Guyana.”
He explained that the airline is new to Guyana and to schedule flights. “This is a brand new scheduled airline… Guyana is the first route that will be having regular scheduled flights. We are going to be dealing with some teething problems as we go along but we will use them to better ourselves.”
He said further that just like the code of conduct that is displayed in the domestic flight industry, where it is a joint and collaborative effort to get the job done, as far as possible he would like to transfer that code to the international arena.
“The domestic airlines in Guyana work in a collaborative, positive way to bring the best service to the flying public and we are working for this to happen on the international stage of the airline industry here in Guyana,” Gouveia declared.
In concluding, Captain Gouveia emphasised that “we are in no shape or form entering into any destructive or predatory competition with any of the international carriers in Guyana, but we are here to work together with these airlines.”
Speaking briefly at the ceremony, Director General of GCAA, Zulficar Mohamed, congratulated the collaboration between Roraima Airways and Dynamic Airways and reiterated that the two companies said they are here for the ‘long haul’ and it is hoped that this would materialise.
“The processing of the application for Dynamic Airways to operate in Guyana was a very smooth one, since the company had a jump start because they were previously operating for another airline so their documents were almost completed (and) just needed some tidying up,” Mohamed said.
He also commended Gouveia on the prompt payment of the security bond and filing of appropriate documents to GCAA and the Ministry of Public Works and this materialised in the company being issued their operating license in such a timely manner.
