PROSECUTRIX Mrs. Judith Mursalin is expected to close the case for the prosecution in the Fish Cleaning murder trial today, and the defence is expected to begin its case.
Quaison Jones, called ‘Blondie’, is facing trial for the murder of Marlon Greene. They both had been employed as fish cleaners at a wharf at Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara.
Eyewitness Rondell Singh of 20 Independence Boulevard, Punt Trench Dam, Albuoystown, Georgetown, also a fish cleaner, testified that Marlon Greene was his brother. He said that on the morning of the incident, at about 09:00 hrs, he was at the koker cleaning fish when he heard Steve, another fish cleaner of Meadow Bank Koker, hollering. He said he ran to the scene in time to see “Blondie” over Marlon, who was on the ground.
The witness said at first he thought Blondie was cuffing away at Marlon, but when he arrived on the scene, he noticed Blondie had a knife in his hand, which he withdrew from the neck of Marlon. The blade, Singh said, appeared to have blood, and blood was pumping from the body of his brother, Marlon.
Another eyewitness to the incident, Michelle Vieira, corroborated the testimony of Rondell Singh, her cousin.
Corporal Henry testified that the accused, Blondie, had given him a written caution statement which declared that he had been attacked by three men, one of whom was Marlon Greene, who had been armed with a cutlass; and that while he was struggling with the three men, he heard Marlon shout, “Ah get bore!”
Corporal Henry, who allegedly took the statement from Blondie, told defence counsel, Mr. George Thomas under cross-examination that he could not recall whether he had questioned Blondie about the identity of the three men who had allegedly attacked him.
The hearing continues today before Justice Navindra Singh and a mixed jury at the Demerara Assizes.
