Two more being hunted after post office robbery
POLICE are hunting two men who robbed the East Bank Demerara Soesdyke Post Office Thursday morning, carting off close to $2M while holding up the postmistress, other employees and more persons visiting to conduct business.Later in the day, it was confirmed that the money snatched by the two men amounted to $1.9M.

When the Guyana Chronicle visited the post office shortly after the robbery, the employees on duty declined to speak about the incident and closed the doors and windows.
Following the heist, Police ranks went to the scene and questioned those working there.
This newspaper was informed by a resident of the community, who viewed the operation after being alerted, verified that the crime was committed by two men, describing one as tall and the other short.
The eyewitness said he was able to see when the robbers left the post office.
He said he had been inside his house when he heard a continuous banging sound coming from within the post office and saw the two men exiting the building shortly after, having concealed their weapons.

Third person
The man related that the robbery was committed by two men but there was a third person. He said, during the episode inside the post office, a heavily tinted dark blue motor car was parked outside.
He said neither of the two robbers got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle which verified that there was a third person who drove it off after the duo entered the back and front passenger seats respectively.
The car then proceeded in the direction of Georgetown before turning onto the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Following the departure of the bandits several persons, who were in the post office, emerged screaming and shouting for help.
Among them were one woman with her baby and another woman with a child who appeared to be disabled.
Police, reportedly, arrested a former employee of the same post office who was, for some reason, on the premises when the robbery took place.
It is not known if the detained man had a role to play in the robbery.
Persons in the area said that the car in which the robbers escaped, had been in the area for the previous two days traversing from the junction of the highways to parts of Timehri.
Yesterday, efforts to contact and get a comment on the robbery from the Ministry of Human Services and the Postmaster General proved futile.
At this time of month, hundreds of thousands of dollars are kept at various post offices countrywide to pay old age and other pensioners.
