ROSE Hall town residents, Calvin Hoyte alias ‘Iguana Man’ and Cort Leitch called ‘Cort’, were each placed on $10,0000 bail yesterday after they denied a charge of having in their possession 10 grams of cannabis sativa (ganja).
The men appeared at the New Amsterdam Court where Police Sergeant Godfrey Playter said cops were on mobile patrol within the Berbice Township when the duo, who are said to be ‘known characters’, were seen acting suspiciously.
“The Number One defendant was seen with the bulky parcel, and on seeing the police he handed same to the Number Two defendant who dropped the parcel on the road,” Playter told the court.
The parcel was subsequently picked up, and when opened, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be marijuana was unearthed.
Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus has transferred the case to Albion Court, also in Berbice, where it is fixed for hearings on May 20. (Jeune Bailey Vankeric)
