GNIC and TSC to contest Cup final at MSC today
THE CURTAIN will come down today on this year’s Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised, BrainStreet-sponsored Under-15 tournament, with the playing of the Cup Final at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground between Guyana National Industrial Corporation and Transport Sports Club.GNIC are the favourites to take this contest, after winning all of their matches in the League phase, but will be facing a TSC lineup team that appear to be peaking at the right time for what is expected to be a keenly contested match.
GNIC defeated Malteenoes Sports Club in the first semi-final at the GNIC ground by 10 wickets last Thursday to advance to the final, dismissing MSC for a paltry 47, thanks to Orlando Ghisiawan who took 5 for 17, before GNIC replied with 48 without loss in just 3 overs.
In the other semi-final which was being played the same day at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground between ousted champions Demerara Cricket Club ‘A’ and TSC, the latter team sprang a surprise on their more illustrious opponents to come away with the win to advance.
Batting first, TSC made 216 runs for 9 in the allotted 50 overs, to which DCC ‘A’ were dismissed for a mere 109 runs from just 28 overs, despite Sagar Hetheramani having a good game for DCC ‘A’ scoring an unbeaten 43 after taking 3 for 25.
However, it was TSC skipper Colin Barlow who led his side from the front to the win, scoring an unbeaten 67 before returning with the ball to claim 6 for 29.
