This Immigration Day weekend Cricket Festival is expected to be fun-filled with lots of good cricket and great entertainment lined up for the spectators, wherein 16 male and 8 female pairs will do battle for supremacy.
The tournament organisers are expecting to feature the best male cricket players in the country, who will be vying for the first prizes of $500 000 even as the females battle for their first place prize of $100 000.
The runners-up in each category will earn $200 000 and $50 000 respectively, while several other attractive incentive prizes are up for grabs for the most sixes, best fielders, best catches and most run-outs/stump outs etc.
Many of the country’s national players available will be turning out for their respective clubs but the organisers have not restricted the pairs to clubs only, with players such as Troy Gonsalves, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Zaheer Mohammed, Abdur Razack, Chidanan Shivram, Lakeraj Sookraj, Tremayne Smartt, Shemaine Campbelle, Akaze Thompson and Latoya Smith among the competitors.
Some other players who are expected to compete are: Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Christopher Barnwell, Paul Wintz, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Leon Johnson, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Robin Bacchus and Katana Mentore.
Play will start promptly at 10:00hrs and in addition to the cricket, the organisers have agreed to make the entrance to the venue free instead of the proposed prize of $1 000 as was earlier announced, with the aim of attracting a large turnout.
