Disagreement over horse race leads to assault charge

SEEINDRA Marimutoo (no address given) was put on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, after he pleaded not guilty yesterday, to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.The accusation resulted from an alleged incident at High Grade Wash Bay shop last March 23.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sherrif, prosecuting, at Albion Court, said about 19:30hrs, Mantrobah Persaud, the defendant and other persons were drinking alcoholic beverages at the Rose Hall Corentyne business place.
At that time, horse racing was being broadcast on television and the virtual complainant and the defendant each bet $2,000 on different horses.
However, after the race ended, a disagreement arose between the two men as to which horse won and, as a result, the defendant, allegedly, picked up a pools stick and dealt Persaud a lash to his head, for which he latter sought medical attention and was issued a certificate.
The trial was fixed for trial on May 13.
