MICHAEL Ashby, of Lot 110 Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown, was fined $30,000 by Magistrate Ann McLennanon Thursday for stealing Cadbury chocolates.The 37-year-old vendor pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Wednesday, March 26, at Regent and King Streets, also in the city, he stole two bars of Cadbury chocolate, valued $1,500, from Shell Service Station.
Police Corporal Dinero Jones, prosecuting said around 13:53 hrs, the convict went into the business place where he was seen by a member of staff who raised an alarm and he was subsequently caught by public-spirited citizens.
The stolen items were retrieved from Ashby’s pants pockets and the alternative to his paying the fine is five months imprisonment.
