Man remanded to prison on unlawful firearm possession, robbery under arms charges

THIRTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Ron Mc Farley (no address given), who has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and robbery under arms, was Wednesday refused bail by Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He pleaded not guilty to the offences, which stipulated that on Monday, February 24, at America Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession one pistol when he was not the holder of a firearm licence; and that he, armed with a gun and being in the company of others, robbed Wilford Mac of one Blackberry cellular phone and cash $75,000., together valued at $107,000.

Police Inspector Michael Grant, prosecuting, said Wilford Mac was standing on America Street when the defendant and others approached and dealt him several cuffs about his body before relieving him of the articles mentioned in the particulars.

Mac reported the matter to the police, who gave chase and saw the defendant pulling something from his pants waist and throwing same to the ground. A rank picked up the article and found that it was a pistol.

The prosecutor successfully objected to bail, citing the nature and gravity of the two allegations, and the fact that an alleged weapon was used in the commission of the offence.

The objection was upheld and the case was put off to March 18.
