Albouystown man gunned down on way home after buying oranges

AN Albouystown resident was shot and killed in an apparent execution early yesterday morning while on his way home after purchasing oranges.

Dead is Vibert Samuels, 53, of Lot 22 Coconut Walk, Callendar Street, Albouystown.

Police said that about 05:30hrs yesterday, the body of Vibert Samuels was found with a suspected bullet wound in the back on the roadway at Coconut Walk and Callendar Street, Albouystown.

He succumbed while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Investigations are in progress.

Sister of the deceased, Marine Samuels yesterday said she was at the time in her bed and heard an unfamiliar man’s voice saying, “Don’t f****** move” before she heard a gunshot.
The grieving woman stated that it was then she got out of bed to see what was happening and saw her brother lying in a pool of blood. He had been shot by a man who escaped on a bicycle.
The woman said that her brother went to the corner of Callendar Street, a short distance away, to buy oranges as he often does and was on his way home when he was killed by a lone gunman.
Samuels was a gardener/painter and the father of three children, ages 22, 19 and 14. It was said that he was not a trouble maker of any sort and his murder is a total shock to his family.
Some relatives were too devastated to talk about the incident yesterday while others were in obvious disbelief and were clueless as to why he was executed.
