LONG-SERVING radio broadcaster Oswald Singh died at the Woodlands Hospital, recently, following a heart attack.

He was in his late 50s and had been hospitalised at the institution since last Sunday.
Up to the time of his passing, he worked at the privately-owned Radio Guyana International (RGI).
Singh entered the broadcasting fraternity in the mid 1980s at the now defunct Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). There, he made a name for himself in the field of current affairs and on various programmes, including ‘Good Morning Guyana.’
Former GBC Programme Manager Margaret Lawrence recalled Singh’s qualities that took him through a successful broadcasting career.
“He was very, very respectful, polite, eager and willing. He possessed a distinctive voice and was a good team player,” she acknowledged.
After taking a break, he returned to what is now the State-owned National Communications Network (NCN) where he worked until the radio spectrum was liberalised.
Less than one year ago, Singh then moved across to the privately-owned RGI where he hosted several programmes. Among them was ‘Lunch with Mattai’, ‘Afternoon with Mattai’, ‘Ek-Haseen-Shamko’ (A Beautiful Evening) and ‘Oriental Fiesta’ for Twins Manufacturing.
At RGI, he was also a morning radio personality several days per week.
Singh was an old student of Queen’s College (QC).
