NEVILLE Chandrawattie, also known as Sunil, 29, of Lot 33 Sparta, Essequibo Coast, was yesterday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the alleged murder of Dharamchand Mangra, committed on Saturday, April 21, at Port Kaituma in the North West District.

The General Manager of the Eldorado Trading Limited was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police prosecutor Corporal Bharat Mangru told the court that Chandrawattie was employed by Tamesh Jagmohan in Port Kaituma, and that the accused, along with others, had on that day planned a robbery, during the course of which Mangra was shot and killed.
They made good their escape, and two persons were charged for that robbery. Investigations conducted led to Clement Williams, aka ‘Stinking’, and Sherwin Henry, aka ‘One eye’ being charged for the offence.
On November 8, the said business place encountered another robbery, and during investigation of the present offence, Neville was questioned. He admitted that he had planned the robbery of 2007.
The prosecutor added that legal advice was sought, and the accused is facing the present charge.
The matter was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court for February 3.
Chandrawattie and Kenneth Garraway of Lot 30 Charity, Essequibo Coast; licensed money lender and farmer Amirullah Kuturatullah, alias ‘Iron Roller’, 46; and Anil Dairam, 25, a large-scale farmer of Number Two Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice are all accused of having, on Friday, November 8, at Port Kaituma, North West District, stolen 96 ounces of gold valued at $22M, and $71M in cash, making a total of $93M, all the property of Tamesh Jagmohan.
Garraway and Kuturatullah were granted bail, but Chandrawattie and Dairam are still on remand, and are facing other charges related to felonious wounding.
