What is the opposition’s hullabaloo about the PGGS?

KINDLY publish this letter for me in the widely read Guyana Chronicle. What is the hullabaloo by the parliamentary opposition and certain sections of the media about the Permission for Geological and Geophysical Survey (PGGS) granted to the Muri Brazil ventures Inc by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment? And what trash is their talk about National Security and Transparency?

Let me inform the mischievous parliamentary opposition and the known sections of the media who are their mouthpieces that every square inch of land belongs to the Guyanese people and the Government of Guyana; and through the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment has absolute power to identify and allocate lands in the natural resources sector for Guyana’s national development if it so wishes.
Furthermore, what transparency is there to be questioned about by Joseph Harmon of the PNCR/APNU and his cabal in the AFC in relation to the PGGS in the New River Triangle area? The problem with Harmon and the AFC cabal is that they are unable to stomach the truth regarding the issuance of the PGGS explained by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment. Moreover, these political twits do not even understand the difference between a PGGS and a Mining Permit.
But the words “transparency” and “corruption” are not strange to the parliamentary opposition, since Guyana was brought to economic ruin by the illegal PNC government as a result of corruption and lack of transparency prior to 1992. Who in Guyana could have questioned Burnham or Hoyte about corruption and the lack of transparency in their illegal governments? Thanks to the restoration of democracy in 1992.
The dirty agenda of the parliamentary opposition is that they want to bring down the government misusing their one-seat majority or dictatorship, despite the fact that there is sustained economic stability in Guyana and where its economy grew by 5% as was recently announced by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is an indicator of strong macro-economic performance.
It must be known by the politically vindictive parliamentary opposition and their cohorts, that Guyana’s process of economic development is balanced with environmental protection and their so-called concerns about our ecological systems in the length and breadth of Guyana are basically a non-issue. Our deforestation rate continues to remain the lowest in the world. The AFC has called for the withdrawal of the PGGS (K/N Thurs Dec 19, 2013). It is known by every Guyanese that the AFC is in bed with the PNC/APNU. Dr. Walter Rodney was not wrong when he used to say in his revolutionary speeches against the Burnham dictatorship in the 1970s, that “anything the PNC puts its hands on turn to s..t”!
Mr. editor, the parliamentary opposition is not concerned about Guyana’s national development but moreso, its destruction and the restoration of Burnhamism in Guyana. But we the Guyanese people must always keep the words of philosopher and poet George Santayana (1862-1952) in our heads: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. In so doing the parliamentary opposition (PNC/APNU/AFC) will certainly be placed into the garbage bin of political history.
Finally, the New River Triangle area belongs to the state of Guyana. Therefore, the issuance of the PGGS to Muri Brazil Ventures Inc is legally sound and has absolutely nothing to do with national security. In this regard, I am happy that the parliamentary opposition and the Stabroek News were put to shame for lying to the public on this matter. The question now is, what’s next on their destruction agenda?
