MINIBUS driver Jairam Balkissoon of Lot 10 Enmore, East Coast Demerara, and his conductor, Rohan Persaud (no address given), were yesterday bonded to keep the peace after they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on charges of verbally abusing and assaulting each other at Thomas Street, Georgetown on December 11.
Persaud faces an additional charge for making use of abusive language to Balkissoon, while Balkissoon faces an additional charge for making use of threatening language to Persaud.
Neither man pleaded guilty to any of the charges.
The duo could not decide whether they were offering evidence against each other. “Are you offering evidence against each other?” the magistrate asked, and got no response from either of the men after a long pause. The magistrate then bonded them to keep the peace.
The prosecutor did not object to bail being granted the men; the facts are as stated above.
