OSWALD Matthews, 39, alias “Bruk up”, of 69 Robb Street, Georgetown, will be spending this Christmas in prison after he changed to guilty his plea before Magistrate Judy Latchman, yesterday, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, and was consequently handed a 12-month sentence.Making his seventh appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Matthews indicated that he would like his plea changed to guilty,
acknowledging that on the night of October 25, he had in his possession without lawful excuse certain house-breaking implements, to wit a crow bar and a cutlass whilst he was on Church Street.
According to prosecutor Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, around 2 ‘o’ clock in the morning on the day in question, the police were on mobile patrol in the vicinity of Alexander and Church Streets when they saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner, searched him, and found a cutlass and a crow bar in his possession.
Questioned, he could not give a satisfactory explanation for the presence of the items on his person. He was therefore arrested and charged for the offence.
