Police reported that acting on information received while conducting investigations into the larceny of two vehicles from Selena Auto Sales at Lusignan, East Coast of Demerara, at about 19:30hrs last Tuesday, the police went to a house at Liliendaal, East Coast of Demerara, where Lloyd Johnson called “Belly” and five other men were seen.
Upon seeing the police Lloyd Johnson opened fire on the ranks in a bid to escape. The police returned fire and he was struck to his abdomen and left thigh. A .32 revolver with 3 rounds and a spent shell was recovered at the scene.
Lloyd Johnson has been admitted to the Georgetown Hospital Corporation (GPHC) under guard, while four of the other suspects were arrested but one other managed to escape.
During a search of the house, four complete car doors and a rear bumper were found.
Further inquires led to the search of a house at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, where the body of one of the stolen vehicles and several parts that had been stripped off were found. A man was arrested.
The other five men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Two bandits invaded Selena Auto Sales at 157 Lusignan Public Road, East Coast of Demerara, two Fridays ago and drove off with two vehicles.
Information reaching the Guyana Chronicle indicated that the men visited the business place under the pretext that they were customers and wanted to see a few cars; they then informed the young man who was dealing with customers that they would return later in the day to check a few more vehicles, but this time with a female companion.
They did return. However, they failed to show with the woman as promised.
The salesman paused from eating his lunch to deal with the “customers”, and approached them with a box containing keys to all the vehicles.
They pointed the sales clerk to a vehicle that they were interested in examining and suddenly decided that they also wanted to see the repossessed vehicles parked at the back of the yard.
While at the back of the yard showing the men a repossessed minibus, they suddenly pounced on him, tied him up and locked him in the minibus.
The salesman related that soon after he heard vehicles being driven off.
Fridays being market days at Lusignan the sight of unregistered vehicles leaving the auto sales compound caused some concern among shoppers.
The owners of the business were immediately contacted and a search was launched for the vehicles. The first car to be located was a Toyota Allion, which conked out soon after leaving the business place, as the battery just died. It was found parked on the railway embankment.
