THE Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI) has donated a trophy to Rosignol Secondary School for presentation to the Best Graduating Student at the school’s annual Prize Giving Ceremony. The trophy was handed over to the school last Friday in response to a letter from the head teacher who had requested BBCI’s contribution to the event.
The company stated that it was privileged to have the opportunity to donate a trophy to the Rosignol Secondary School and will continue to donate and sponsor other events that would benefit the school and its students.
According to a release, the BBCI has supported the Ministry of Education extensively over the years by donating trophies to a number of schools and technical institutions, waiving toll charges for school tour buses transiting the bridge; sponsored the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s Annual Tribute to Retired Teachers Programme; donated 80 medals to the students being honoured at the Tribute to Teachers and Students Programme and also sponsored various school activities.
The BBCI is not only into collecting tolls and facilitating vehicles crossing the Berbice River Bridge and vessels transiting through the retractor span and under the high span, but also discharges its corporate responsibilities. It has been playing an integral part in the development of education, making donations to national sports events and charitable and non–charitable organisations in close proximity to the bridge and in Regions 5 and 6.
In the past, the company has sponsored many events that benefited the communities both on the eastern and western sides of the bridge and as far as Moleson Creek and New Amsterdam, as well as many other areas such as Georgetown, Linden, Parika and in the hinterland.
This year the company has so far received 84 public relations requests and managed to approve 79 of these, including events such as Mashramani and Emancipation Day.
