WE are taxi and hire car drivers of the Upper Corentyne, Skeldon, Crabwood Creek area. We are having problems with private cars doing hire car services on our carriageways and the Springlands Traffic Department is not doing anything about it up until now, after many complaints and private plate numbers have been written down and given to the Station (Sergeant December) and up to now no action has been taken.

When four or five private cars are pulled in for this offence, before the day is done, these same cars are back on the road working again, because the traffic police do not charge them or put them before the court. These same drivers say to us: “No favour asked because money pays.” Each driver of a private car is paying $3,000 per week to conduct his business. So we are asking the proper authorities to help us out and do something about this issue on the Corentyne roads.
We, the hire car drivers, are paying more taxes than the private cars and they are raking in the benefits, and the GRA is losing on one side because of the Springlands Traffic Department misconduct and greed.
