ASANTI Bastiani, of Lot 35 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm. She appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, where the 35-year-old defendant denied that on November 18 at Lot 35 Norton Street, Lodge, she unlawfully assaulted Anil Rajkumar, causing him actual bodily harm.
Police Corporal, Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant and the defendant are in a common-law relationship which bore a child.
The prosecutor said that day, around 19:00 hrs, Rajkumar was attempting to speak to the defendant after their child was taken away from her by the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA).
Bastiani started an argument and, when Rajkumar tried to calm her, she viciously scratched him about his neck, chest and abdomen, resulting in injuries.
The case was transferred to Magistrate Judy Latchman for report yesterday and Bastianti was incarcerated overnight.
