RDC to request drinking water on T&HD ferries

CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud has instructed the Clerk of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Sunil Singh to write the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) requesting the provision of drinking water for passengers on the two state-of-the-art ferries operating between Good Hope, Essequibo Coast and Parika, East Bank Essequibo. At the previous RDC statutory meeting, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Councillor, Mr. Prince Shepherd had complained that the vessels did not have drinking water and called on the Regional Administration to address the issue.
However People’s Progressive Party / Civic (PPP/C) Councillors on the Government side declared that passengers now have modern and comfortable ferry boats in which to travel, unlike in the days of the People’s National Congress (PNC) regime when they had to shelter under umbrellas in the vessels whenever it rained.
They pointed out that the cost of travelling is very affordable, so persons can buy a bottle of water and canteens are also available on board.
But the APNU Councillor, who seemed determined to have T&HD provide water for the public reiterated the demand.
Region 2 Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vishnu Samaroo then suggested that the T&HD be written to on the issue and the APNU Councillor breathed a sigh of relief and quietly took his seat.
