482 animals impounded in September, 148 more than in previous month

THE Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) in its monthly report on the operations of the Stray Catching Units, stated that a total of 482 animals, 148 more than the number for the previous month, were impounded during September 2013.This number comprised 192 cows, 105 goats, 95 horses and 90 sheep.

The Georgetown unit, which operated on the East Bank of Demerara, the East Coast of Demerara and the West Coast of Demerara, accounted for 177 comprising 41 cows, 75 goats and 61 sheep, while the Berbice unit which operates on West Coast Berbice and Corentyne areas, accounted for 192 cows, 105 goats, and 90 sheep.

The ministry has been advising cattle owners to ensure that their animals are branded and the brand is clearly visible in order to facilitate the process of retrieval.
