….4 West Demerara schools sponsored
THE INAUGURAL Kashif and Shangai Organization organized Chico Products sponsored Inter-Secondary School Under-18 competition yesterday received a tangible boost in the arm, thanks to Radesh Rameshwar’s Bushy Park Sawmills Inc.Yesterday, General Manager of Bushy Park Sawmills Inc., Patty Ramlall, handed over a quantity of gear to Teacher and Coach of Uitvlugt Secondary School, Chevon Monchoir, as part of its contribution to the tournament.
In fact, Uitvlugt is one of the four schools from the West Demerara area who will be doing battle for the top prize of $1.2M and who along with three other schools, were the recipient of sponsorship from the Parika based business entity.
“Bushy Park Sawmills Inc. yesterday offered to sponsor the four schools from the West Demerara area, namely Uitvlugt, Leonora, Stewartville and Patentia, by giving them full playing kit to use in our Chico Products Under-18 tournament,” related Kashif Muhammad.
He added, “Indeed this gesture is a timely and welcome one, since our overhead cost to run this tournament is G$27M and we are working hard to offset this, since we know that we may not be able to attract the large crowds as before, but we are working hard to make this tournament a success. “
In addition to the sponsoring of the four teams, Muhammad said Rameshwar through his business entity, purchased 1,000 tickets for two playing days in Georgetown and Den Amstel, to be distributed free amongst school children who are desirous of witnessing the matches.
“This is another shot in the arm for this tournament, one that we hope to make bigger and better in the same mould as we did with our senior tournament, even as we seek to form the nursery for Guyana’s Golden Jaguars early,” posited Muhammad.
He found it difficult to hide the smile on his face, when he informed that Rameshwar has also agreed to assist with part of the sponsorship to facilitate the airfare, accommodation and meals for the Waramadong Secondary School unit, who will be flown in and out of Region 7.
Muhammad showed this publication a copy of the quotation his Organization received and will be working with, wherein the cost of the return ticket is G$1M, while hotel accommodation and meals, which will be served thrice daily at Windjammer Hotel, is an additional G$2.2M for the twice runners-up of the Digicel nationwide Inter-Secondary School tournament.
This year’s tournament, which will involve 24 of the nation’s top schools, including two times Digicel nationwide Inter-Secondary School champions Wismar/Christianburg Secondary, will be replacing the traditional senior Inter-club tournament and kicks off on Sunday 8th December at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, while the finals will take place at the Guyana National Stadium, on Wednesday 1st January, 2014.
In brief remarks, Ramlall said Bushy Park Sawmills Inc. felt very pleased to be associated with the K&S Organisation on this venture, while Monchoir thanked the organizars for not only organizing the tournament but giving her school a chance to showcase their technique and talent once again, even as she expressed her gratitude on behalf of Uitvlugt and the other three schools, to their sponsors.
