JAIBARAT Persaud, a father of four, had all charges against him dismissed by Magistrate Shoundell Lovell at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, October 30, after his four children — Jessica, Joel, Shedika, and Hemwattie Persaud — refused to offer any evidence in a matter in which he was charged with assault and use of abusive language against them.
Police contended that on Sunday, October 20, at Hope West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, Persaud allegedly committed the unlawful acts on his children.
Meanwhile, the four sibblings whad also been charged with using abusive language against their father, Jaibarat Persaud
Police Inspector John Singh informed the court that on the day in question, the children, none of whom resides at their father‘s premises, went along with their cousin to congregate on their father’s premises and voice their dissatisfaction at their father having a relationship with someone other than their mother.
He stressed that the family could have engineered a conflict resolution situation in the first instance, rather than involving the police to take statements and make arrests.
Nonetheless, he recommended to the court that, since neither party intended to offer evidence against the other, a bond should be instituted, and all parties involved should pay court costs.
All members of the Persaud family involved in the case apologized to the court, and the matter was subsequently dismissed; but not before Magistrate Lovell had strongly warned the Persaud family, bonded them to keep the peace, and ordered that they pay court costs amounting to $2000.
