“GO GUYANA GO”, a charity comprising Guyanese based in Canada and locally, last week put together hampers containing a full month’s supply of groceries and handed them over to 64 families whose children attend the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre (RCAC).

Volunteer Coordinator based in Toronto, Subrina Mohamed-Puran disclosed that the food hampers were made possible with financial and food ration donations from Toronto.
The Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre (RCAC), located at 13 Public Road, Ruimveldt has been operational since July 18, 1991.
The Centre has an after school reading and learning programme which runs from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays they hold a remedial reading programme.
It also has active choir, dance, drama and singing classes.
The programmes are run by Mrs Murray, Mrs December, Ms Saygon and Ms Hatfield, who rely heavily on volunteers to assist them in the care of the children who attend the centre.
Mohamed-Puran disclosed that she had been involved with RCAC for the past eight months and she and other volunteers wanted to do something special for the centre, hence the food hampers.
She said: “On the day of distributing groceries, we invited parents of the children who attend RCAC so that we could talk with them about the role the centre plays in these children’s lives and to encourage them to spread the word to other families in the community.”
Mohamed-Puran stressed that volunteerism is an integral part of the development process for many communities. She said that volunteers like Murray, December, Saygon and Hatfield cannot do it alone.
She urged those who can find the time to “please consider lending a hand at the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre.”
