SPEAKER of the Suriname National Assembly, Dr. Jennifer Geerling-Simons, told the Guyana Chronicle Friday that meetings with leaders and members of the three political parties were fruitful and open.

“Everyone is openly communicating about the problems facing Guyana politically; right now…I think this is just a moment in time; it is something happening now and Guyana will move on,” Dr Geerling-Simons said at the conclusion of her visit with high-ranking Government officials and members of the Opposition.
She also said the sessions proved interesting and educational, particularly since they underscored the differences between Guyana’s and Suriname’s Parliamentary systems. “We are learning and comparing the systems right now, the way the system works is different,” Dr Geerling-Simons said.
Dr. Geerling-Simons met President Donald Ramotar on Thursday, and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Opposition Leader David Granger and Members of the Alliance For Change (AFC) on Friday.
The Surinamese Speaker of the House and her delegation left Guyana yesterday after a fruitful three-day visit.
