MURDER accused Ramesh Moniram called ‘Bobby’ who allegedly made a confession statement that he killed his wife reneged Tuesday in an unsworn statement from the dock.
He said that the police had beaten him to obtain the false confession and claimed the truth was that his wife was going to tidy up after a sex act when she slipped into a koker and disappeared.
But Forensic Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh who confirmed that the woman died from drowning also said that he found finger marks around the neck of the body which is proof that the victim could have been choked.
In the alleged confession statement that was given to Corporal Fraser, the accused said that following a sex act he placed poison in the mouth of his wife and choked her. After he was satisfied that she had died he covered her with stuff from the koker and went away.
Defence Counsel, Mr. Bernard De Santos, S.C., who cross-examined the policeman, described the cop as a liar and suggested to him that he had used a baton on the belly of the accused to beat the confession out of him.
The accused had said because of the blows he received on the abdomen he was vomiting and urinating blood and had to be hospitalised at the Georgetown Hospital for three weeks.
But Prosecutrix Mrs. Judith Gildharie-Mursalin who disagreed with the time of hospitalisation called as a witness a Medex of the prison who testified that the accused who was admitted in prison in January, 2010 did not enter hospital until March.
De Santos disagreed with the suggestion from the prosecution and declared his intention to call witnesses from the hospital to prove that his client was hospitalised in January.
The accused in his unsworn statement from the dock yesterday said: “Sir, I do not know to read and write. I do not know to swim. Me and my wife met to make a decision to rent a house to live in with my two children because my father don’t want me there, neither she family don’t want me there. She said is okay.

“After that, the next day I felt hungry and thirsty. I came out. See my brother-in-law. I told him ah hungry and thirsty. He said “wait there, I coming back.
