A search was up to press time last evening on for the body of 49-year old Patrick Ramkellwan after he was tossed into the river following a boat accident.According to a release from the Maritime Administration Department MARAD, the boat that Patrick and other persons were in collided with another vessel just before 22.00 hours on Saturday evening in the lower Pomeroon River.
The department in its release stated that the now missing man along with two other friends 22-year old Edroy Gill and 66-year old Marlon Chappelle had early been patrons of a cricket match and were under the influence of alcohol when they boarded the ill-fated boat, a ballahoo.
It was while the boat was proceeding up the river that it collided with a vessel suspected to be a fishing vessel that was being operated without lights. The collision caused Ramkellwan to be flung into the river and immediately disappeared.
The Maritime Administration Department has expressed its sadness at the incident and promised that like always, it will be conducting a proper investigation into the accident while relating that the police are also presently conducting their investigations.
